Month 1

Day 13.  A botanical expedition departs for the Boca region, in search of useful medicinal plants.

Day 27.  Goldrider Nance gives birth to a daughter.

Month 2

The botany expedition discovers (among other new species) a plant which, when burned, gives off smoke that proves mildly euphoric.  The plant also causes blisters.  When the expedition returns, sailors spread the habit of smokng ‘blisterweed’ to coastal and river ports, with a resulting increase in chest complaints.  Enthusiasts seek a way to smoke the weed safely.

Day 21.  The hospital announces that a machine used in synthesising medicinal drugs fails irreparably.  This means that several classes of drugs will now become unavailable.  

At Azov Weyr, the formation of a low-level wing of older riders is announced; it will be lead by wingleader B’kon and wingsecond Lisz.

Month 3

Day 5. Kwanjath’s clutch hatches. Though it includes three bronzes, the dragons appear to be undersized, and three of the sixteen eggs fail to hatch.

Day 6. Bronzerider L’lei is found guilty of stealing emeralds, and sentenced to a dozen lashes.

Month 4.

Riders from Maori Weyr announce that they are standing in the Colonial Council elections, and begin to campaign with the support of their Weyr.

Medic Maja invents a safe means of smoking blisterweed, known as a ‘hookah’.

Day 5. Two die when a gas explosion and fire destroy Ostrovsky Square. The new fire wagon is unable to control the blaze; eventually help is received from dragons from Azov Weyr. Following the fire, the residents of Ostrovsky are temporarily rehoused in Connell Square weyrs and private residences elsewhere in town, and the fire department request a second fire wagon.

Month 5

The Vintners and Brewers Guild of Pern is formed, with Stakeholder Tobin of Riverside as chairman.

The Xanadu magistrate agrees to hear the case of a young man who is suing the Colonial Council for the right to a land grant in the occupied area.

Two Azov riders, Sebastian and S’bien, announce their candidacy for Colonial Council seats, S’bien at Rubicon River and Sebastian in the new constituency that covers Xanadu town and stakehold, where he is opposing Lady Mina. In a rally in Ping Square, they claim that the current Councillors are planning to remove the Charter right to freedom of movement.

When the election results are announced, Sebastian and the two Maori riders have been elected. Lady Mina fails to win a seat. 40% of the seats are held by new Councillors, mostly not established landholders.

The Xanadu Town Council asks Azov Weyr to provide a wing of firefighters, but also discusses claiming Connell Square.

Day 27: Dragonriders and townsfolk blockade the Weyr ferry at the jetties, in protest against the expected motion to Council to limit freedom of movement.

Month 6

The Colonial Council passes measures about the training of groundcrews, building Threadproof storage and stockpiling non-perishable foodstuffs; it also allocates funds to Xanadu Town towards the rebuilding of Ostrovsky Square.

The Magistrate, sitting in Council, finds in favour of Wilf of Render’s Bend and against the Colonial Council. His verdict is that the Council has acted against the Charter and must reinstitute land grants.

Month 7

Day 6: The Colonial Council, still in session, announces the repeal of Amendment 11, extension of the protected areas by 1 mile in each direction, and the use of the additional land to provide land grants. areas protected by the Weyrs are to be extended by a mile in each direction, and unowned land in the new area used to provide space for small (2 acre) land grants.

Day 7: Weyrleader K’den’s motion to restrict dragonrider transfers is defeated, with Weyrwoman Xia and R’sut of Maori voting against K’den. The session ends. The Fog Ball takes place – without fog.

Day 15: Councillor Sebastian files suit against Azov Weyr over the forced removal of the riders from Xanadu Town.

Day 19: Azov’s gold Isth rises in her delayed first flight, to general relief.

Month 8

Xanadu Town prepares for Threadfall: Ground Crews are recruited, sirens installed or repaired.

Day 11: Riders wishing to live in Xanadu are permitted to return to Connell Square, rent-free, on condition that they share with the current occupants until Ostrovsky Square is rebuilt.

Month 9

As riders return to Xanadu, Wings are reorganised. There are now three Xanadu-based wings under S’tig, T’zen and Th’deus.

Day 13: Opening of Xanadu Stakehold’s new papermaking and printing facility. A contract to print textbooks is announced.

Day 21: It is announced that the senior weyrling class will complete its training at Xanadu.

Month 10

Day 7: Start of the Xanadu Gather, which is smaller and shorter than in previous years.

Day 15: Lady Mina offers support to the Xanadu College. The Karachi College announces a scheme whereby students may attend without fees in exchange for working for the college after graduation. Isth’s clutch of sixteen hatches, with Eteth’s clutch due shortly.

Day 16. The Xanadu College announces that there will be no intake to the engineering and informatics programmes in the current year, as student numbers are now so low.

Day 17: Blue Rauth is killed in a drill at Azov, after a collision with green Kiesath. His rider, J’li, now known as Julian, survives.

Month 11

The reconstruction of Ostrovsky Square is nearing completion. Some refugees are able to move back to their old land. It is now clear that both gold dragons and female firelizards are rising more frequently across the continent.

Day 15-21 Spring Games at Azov Weyr, which result in a victory for Azov. Winners of individual events include Tori, D’go and K’bar. Eteth’s clutch hatches on day 19.

Month 12

Residents move back to Ostrovsky Square throughout this month.

Day 15: Tachryleith lays a clutch of fourteen eggs.

Day 21: Maiden trip of the Karachi railway train, with a public departure and tickets for the trip sold or won in lotteries. However, the train is derailed within a few minutes, causing minor injuries. Dragonriders from Azov and Ongola help to retrieve the victims.

College Department Head Quinn dies at a great age, leaving a vacancy at the College for Head of History.

Brownrider L’zir, formerly K’den’s wingsecond, is posted to Xanadu as an assistant weyrlingmaster.

Month 13

Day 3: There is a near-riot in the Craft Quarter when Zakaria, known as an eccentric, makes a speech claiming that Thread is an invention of dragonriders. In the confusion, panicky firelizards owned by Shika flame some drying underwear. Police intervene: Shika and Zakaria will face charges.

Day 23: Bronzerider L’lei starts a fight in the 11C cabaret and is arrested on assault charges. Weyrling G’van is also charged.

There are births to Xanadu riders: Wingsecond Tori gives birth to a girl, Beja, on day 7, and Wendy bears a son, Kadbarson, to bronzerider K’bar on day 26.
